Subject: | Voter Pre-Registration at Age 16 |
Did you know that tens of millions of Americans are not registered to vote? If our democracy is to thrive, we must make it easier for more people to vote. To do so, we need to eliminate barriers to participation, such as cumbersome voter registration requirements. One way to make voter registration easier is to give a young person, who is at least 16 years of age, the ability to pre-register to vote. If they choose to do so, this means that when they turn 18, they will automatically be registered and able to vote in the next election. By allowing young people to pre-register, we are getting teens more involved in the democratic election process at an earlier age. The result will not only boost voting among the state’s youth, but also make our democracy stronger. Please join me in making it easier for more young people to exercise their constitutional right to vote. Previous Co-Sponsors (HB1145 from 2017-2018): M. SCHLOSSBERG, A. RAVENSTAHL, V. BROWN, R.
