Subject: | Amending the PA Game and Wildlife Code to remove restrictions on the use of thermal and night vision equipment for hunting. (Prior HB 2648) |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation amending the Pennsylvania Game and Wildlife Code to remove the current statutory restriction on the use of thermal and night vision equipment for hunting. Currently, the Game Code bans the use of thermal, night vision and similar equipment as unlawful devices. My legislation would remove this statutory restriction, allowing the PA Game Commission (PGC) to regulate these devices as they deem necessary for use specific to various species under seasons and bag limits. The use of this equipment would greatly benefit predator hunters here in the Commonwealth in helping to control populations of predator species, especially coyotes, whose population numbers continue to increase regardless of the fact that they can be hunted 24 hours a day, nearly 365 days a year. Predator populations must be kept in check to help protect, livestock, pets, personal property and further help ensure the personal safety of our constituents. I would greatly appreciate your support of this proposed legislation. Thank you very much for your consideration. Previous Co-Sponsors: Bernstine, J.
