Subject: | Legislation Designating Harley-Davidson as the Official Motorcyle of Pennsylvania |
In the near future, we plan to introduce legislation that would designate the Harley-Davidson as the official motorcycle of Pennsylvania. The first Harley-Davidson factory wa erected in 1906 by founders William S. Harley, Arthur Davidson, Walter Davidson, and William A Davidson on Chestnut street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which remains Harley-Davidson's corporate headquarters today. During World Wars I and II, more than half of all Harley-Davison motorcycles produced were sold for use by the U.S. military as motorcycles were in high demand for combat service in the war efforts. It is estimated that the Army utilized approximately 60,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles during both wars. Harley-Davidson is a true-blue American iron horse. Many of the motorcycles are proudly manufactured in the Commonwealth by Pennsylvanians using American steel. The largest Harley-Davidson manufacturing facility is located in the City of York Pennsylvania. The facility opened in 1973 and performs a myriad of manufacturing operations from machining, polishing, and chrome plating to forming, welding, and painting. Each year, hundreds of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts trek to York to witness firsthand the living legacy of Harley-Davidson USA, tour the facility and visit the Harley-Davidson gift shop. Please consider joining us in support of this legislation. |
