MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 14, 2019 02:14 PM
From: Representative Michael H. Schlossberg
To: All House members
Subject: Cure for Cursive

The way we sign our names can change with age, which normally makes little difference in our daily lives.

However, when it comes to voting your signature matters a lot. Prior to walking into the voting booth, you are asked to sign the book next to your name. If your signature doesn’t match the one they have on file from many years ago, your vote could be thrown out.

Because many people register to vote at age 18 or as young adults and signatures can change over time, I will introduce legislation that makes it easier for voters to update their voter registration signature.

This legislative proposal would allow a voter to update a voter registration signature by submitting a voter registration application to the county board of elections.

It should be that simple.

Introduced as HB892
