Subject: Urging Congress to Acknowledge Russian Election Meddling

One of the greatest principles of American democracy is the promise of free and fair elections. Unfortunately, when the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the Russian government interfered with the 2016 Presidential Election one thing became immensely clear; the integrity of our elections has been compromised.

Since then, even more evidence of Russian meddling has come to light. Dan Coats, Director of National Intelligence, stated that his agency has been clear in their assessments of Russia’s “ongoing, pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy.” It is irresponsible to do nothing in response to these efforts.

To this end, I am introducing a resolution urging Congress to definitively acknowledge Russian attempts to subvert our right to fair elections. Securing our elections should not be a partisan issue. The citizens of our state and nation deserve a system they can trust.

It is time for Congress to hold Russia accountable to these undeniable facts and work to secure and strengthen our electoral system. The American people need the assurance that no foreign power will ever again influence or hijack the democratic process in our country. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
