| In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution designating February 22nd, 2019 as “Keith Valley Challenge Day” in Pennsylvania. The purpose of this resolution is to recognize Keith Valley Middle School in the Hatboro-Horsham School District, located in Montgomery County. In 1977, Keith Valley Middle School held a floor hockey marathon to honor the memory of Billy Whitehead, an 8th grade student who passed away due to a rare congenital heart defect. In his memory, the staff and 8th graders at the school began holding the “Billy Whitehead Marathon” and pledged to raise money on a yearly basis for St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, located in Philadelphia. The marathon was renamed “The Keith Valley Challenge” in 1981 and students began to donate funds raised to additional charities. The Keith Valley Challenge is a 14-hour non-stop floor hockey marathon. Last year’s Challenge raised $41,000 and over the last 42 years, Keith Valley students have raised and donated over $1 million to fourteen charities such as the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the ALS Foundation, and the Ronald McDonald House. The 43rd Annual Keith Valley Challenge is scheduled to kick-off on Friday, February 22nd, 2019. This year, students are raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Please join us in cosponsoring this resolution. |
