Subject: | Speed Humps in School Zone Pilot Program |
School zones are put in place to ensure the safety of our children in and around our schools. The speed limit in school zones is 15 miles per hour during certain times of the day and year. Unfortunately, many drivers do not obey this special speed limit, needlessly putting our children at risk. Permanent, physical measures, such as speed humps, would force motor vehicles to be slowed, thus reducing speed and improving safety in school zones.
My legislation would require the Department of Transportation to establish and administer the Speed Hump in School Zone Pilot Program, and to place speed humps, or similar devices, in a minimum of one school zone within a school district located in each of the nine county classes throughout the state and submit a report to the General Assembly.
I ask that you join me in making school zones safer for Pennsylvania’s children by co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
