Subject: | Selective Service Registration Check Box on Driver’s License Applications |
The federal Military Selective Service Act mandates that every male citizen and male person residing in the United States between the ages of 18 and 26 register for selective service so that an adequate armed strength can be achieved and maintained to guarantee the security of this nation. My legislation is similar to those passed in 13 other states, 2 territories and Washington D.C., by creating a check box on driver’s license and learner’s permit applications. The language is also gender neutral, so in case the Military Selective Service Act is ever amended to require females to register for Selective Service. This bill would allow individuals between 18 and 26 years of age who apply for a learner’s permit or driver’s license to register with the Selective Service System by checking a box provided on the application. Please join me in helping Pennsylvania create an easier and more efficient option for selective service registration.
