|Subject:||Credit Report Protection for Consumers After Data Breaches|
|Unfortunately, it seems like every month there is another report of a company or organization that has experienced some form of data breach. It is worrying enough when a hacker gets a credit card number. It is completely frightening when a credit reporting agency experiences a data breach such as Equifax did in 2017. Now the personal and sensitive information of millions of Americans could be in the hands of criminals. We need to ensure the people of Pennsylvania are protected.
This is why I am again introducing legislation, which would require reporting agencies to help Pennsylvanians protect themselves from identity theft. A credit agency who experiences a data breach would be required to provide free credit monitoring and reports over a certain period of time. My bill will create a protected person security freeze to ensure some of our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians cannot become victims of identity theft.
I ask for your support and to join me in co-sponsoring this legislation, so we can protect Pennsylvanians from suffering through identity theft and help them get the tools they need to keep information safe.
Introduced as HB270
