MEMORANDUM

Subject: Paid Sick Leave

Today across Pennsylvania, there are individuals who are sick or need to care for their sick child and must make the decision to go to work or stay home and lose a day’s pay. Sadly, in many cases, the individual decides to go to work. This does not help the individual recover and risks infecting coworkers and the public. Everyone deserves a healthy workplace and customers should be able to enjoy their experience, not worrying if the person serving them has the flu.

This is why I will be introducing legislation which would ensure all workers will be given the opportunity to earn paid sick leave. Most workers will be able to earn up to 52 hours a year by earning 1 hour of leave for every 40 hours worked. Under my bill, our smaller employers would provide up to 26 hours of leave per year by earning 1 hour for every 80 hours worked.

I ask that you join me in co-sponsoring this legislation that will help provide for a stronger economy, better care for loved ones, and avoid public health risks by showing Pennsylvania workers we will stand up for them.
