| Across Pennsylvania, workers are having their wages stolen from them. Each week almost 400,000 Pennsylvanians experience ‘wage theft’ which can include minimum wage violations, overtime violations, under-counting of hours worked, tip violations and illegal deductions. This theft of workers’ income happens in restaurants, childcare facilities, home healthcare settings and many workplaces across our state. The implications of this theft are tremendous. According to a 2015 Temple University study, Pennsylvania employees lose more than $19 million each week due to wage theft. This theft hurts taxpayers as well: stolen wages result in tens of millions of dollars in lost tax revenue each year. Wage theft hurts workers and their families, taxpayers and law-abiding businesses. My legislation will provide more protections for workers and seek to end these unfair and reprehensible practices.
