Subject: | "Veteran Awareness Month" |
I will be introducing a Resolution to designate the month of November, 2018 as "Veteran Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. Across the Commonwealth, veterans are part of our communities. They include our children, friends, neighbors, siblings, parents, grandparents, and kind strangers. Growing up, we look up to them as coaches, teachers, and political, social, and religious leaders and we thank them for their service to our country, typically, on Veteran's Day every 11th of November. While not everyone knows the full history of the United States Armed Forces and where our service men and women have served in the past and continue to represent us today, we can all strive to learn more about the service men and women who make up our communities today and to take something meaningful away from our time spent with them. Whether it be inviting a veteran to speak at one of our schools or volunteering our own time to charities and other non-profits which exist to advocate for and unite veterans in the state, there is a responsibility which all of us should bear equal weight. We as Pennsylvanians should better provide for the veterans in our communities and seek to understand their stories and the sacrifices they have made on behalf of all of us. My Resolution will serve to recognize the brave men and women who have served our country admirably and continue to represent our interests at home and abroad today. As well, it aims to establish meaningful and steady relationships between veterans and the people in their communities, beyond Veteran's Day. We are a grateful nation. Please join me in cosponsoring this important Resolution. |
