Subject: Resolution Designating “Bullying Prevention Awareness Month”

In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution designating October 2018 as “Bullying Prevention Awareness Month” in the Commonwealth.

Bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on mental health, substance use, and suicide. Bullying can be verbal, physical, or via the Internet, and can hurt a person’s self-esteem, social interactions, and performance. People can be bullied for many reasons, including appearance, cultural accent, or some perceived “difference” in the victim. It is also important to note that bullying is not just about the effects on the victim, but also can impact those who witness the behavior and those who engage in the behavior.

Bullying Prevention Awareness Month is a month-long effort that encourages everyone to take an active role in the bullying prevention movement.

Please join us in designating October 2018 as “Bullying Prevention Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania to help bring bullying to an end.
