Subject: World Mental Health Day Resolution

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution recognizing October 10, 2018 as “World Mental Health Day” in Pennsylvania, a day designated for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy.

Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which people realize their own potential, can cope with normal life stresses, can work productively, and can contribute to society. Mental health disorders can affect the ability of an individual to carry out daily tasks, establish or maintain relationships. In low-income countries, over 85 percent of individuals afflicted with mental health disorders do not receive appropriate mental health care. Mental health patients also encounter unique challenges from a society that does not fully understand or appreciate the complexities of this illness. That is why health care providers who treat this illness deserve recognition for their services and why they are also worthy of our continued support.

Please join me in support of this resolution which is intended to highlight the significance of mental health and acknowledge the importance of trained employees to enhance the well-being of individuals and ensure the availability of high-quality mental health and psychosocial support services.
