Subject: | Co-sponsorship of Resolution - "Hunger Action Month" |
In the near future, I plan on introducing a non-controversial resolution recognizing September 2018 as “Hunger Action Month” to focus the attention on the persistent problem of domestic hunger in the United States and Pennsylvania. According to a study published by Feeding America, in 2016 over 12% of Pennsylvanians did not always know where they would find their next meal. Preschool and school-age children who experience severe hunger have higher levels of chronic illness, anxiety, depression and behavioral problems than children receiving a well-balanced diet and food insecure senior citizens have lower nutrient intakes which places one at risk of disability. I believe every citizen, business and government entity have a role to play in getting food to those in need. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. Thank you. |
