|Subject:||Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Awareness Week|
|In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating the week of November 11 to November 17, 2018, as Diabetes & Cardiovascular Disease Awareness Week in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Approximately 1.4 million Pennsylvanians have diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes, representing an estimated 90 to 95 percent of all diagnosed adult diabetes cases in the United States.
People with Type 2 diabetes are at two to four times greater risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Sadly, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death associated with diabetes. In fact, two out of three deaths in people with type 2 diabetes are attributed to cardiovascular disease.
I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution in an effort to raise awareness of the connection between diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
