Subject: Public School Threat Assessment Teams
 
In the wake of the recent national tragedies in our schools, I plan to introduce legislation that establishes a vulnerability assessment team in each public school entity in Pennsylvania.

Specifically, my legislation will require the Office of Safe Schools in the Department of Education to work, in consultation with the Department of Corrections (DOC), to develop guidelines for each vulnerability assessment team and the team’s responsibilities when evaluating the safety of school buildings. DOC currently uses vulnerability assessment teams to evaluate deficiencies in its buildings and has the expertise that can be applied to school buildings.

This legislation provides another tier of school building safety by utilizing existing resources that are available at DOC.
