Subject: Background Checks for School Director Candidates
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that requires candidates running for the office of school director to obtain background checks. Specifically, as part of a candidate’s affidavit submitted with his or her nominating petitions, the candidate must state that he or she obtained the following:
  • A report of criminal history record information from the Pennsylvania State Police or a statement from the Pennsylvania State Police that the State Police central depository contains no information relating to the candidate;
  • A certification from the Department of Human Services as to whether the candidate is named in the Statewide database as the alleged perpetrator in a pending child abuse investigation or as the perpetrator of a founded report or an indicated report; and
  • A report of Federal criminal history record information.
