Subject: | Resolution Designating June 3 through 9, 2018, as “Parental Alienation and Hostile Aggressive Parenting Awareness Week” |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the week of June 3 through 9, 2018, as “Parental Alienation and Hostile Aggressive Parenting Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. Parental alienation (PA) is the process and result of the psychological manipulation of a child into showing unwarranted fear, disrespect or hostility toward a targeted parent or other family member. “Parental Alienation and Hostile Aggressive Parenting Awareness Week” is a Commonwealth-wide effort to raise awareness and highlight the adverse effects that PA and hostile aggressive parenting have on children, which can include low self-esteem, lack of trust, depression, and addiction. PA represents an often overlooked form of child abuse and can be traumatic for both the child and the targeted parent. Raising awareness is an important step toward ending the abuse of innocent children caught in the crossfire of spousal conflict. Judges, lawyers, police officers, doctors, policymakers, and the general public need the knowledge and tools to properly address this important issue. To that end, I ask that you please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
