|Subject:||Resolution Honoring the Life of Former Heavyweight Wrestling Champion Bruno Sammartino|
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution that would honor the life of former heavyweight wrestling champion Bruno Sammartino.
Sadly, Bruno passed away at the age of 82 on April 18, 2018, and although his family, friends, and fans are mourning his loss, it is important that we focus on his life, which brought enjoyment and happiness to people throughout the world.
Although Bruno came from humble beginnings from his home in war-torn Italy and faced adversity as a child, Bruno life’s embodied what many have considered to be the results of hard work and an unwavering spirit through which he achieved the “American Dream.” In 1959, Bruno set a world record in weightlifting by bench pressing 569 pounds. That same year, he entered the world of professional wrestling. His career spanned a total of 29 years, during which time he was a two-time heavyweight wrestling champion.
While his career led him around the world, Bruno remained a humble and sincere man who was extremely proud of his heritage and Pittsburgh roots, where he was first recognized as the “Italian Strongman” not only for his athleticism, but for his genuine “good guy” personality that made him such an endearing figure.
Please join me in supporting this resolution to honor the life of Pennsylvania’s own, Bruno Sammartino.
