MEMORANDUM

Subject: Resolution designating September 2018 as “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating September 2018 as “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania.

It is estimated that 22,240 American women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year and 14,070 women will die as a result.

Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer in women and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women. Only about 15% are found at an early stage, when 9 out of 10 women treated will live longer than five years.

Because there is no single test that will diagnose this cancer, many women do not receive the diagnosis until late in its development. Ovarian cancer is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are subtle and are very often misinterpreted by both women and physicians.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer.
