| In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to amend the Physical Therapy Practice Act provisions regarding when applicants may take the required licensing examination. Currently, the Physical Therapy Practice Act requires applicants for licensure to pass an examination approved by the Board, and the Board's regulations specify that an applicant may not sit for that examination until after they have graduated from their educational program. However, about 32 other states allow physical therapy students to take the examination 60-90 days prior to graduation, thereby giving them the ability to become licensed and start working upon graduation. My legislation will allow physical therapist and physical therapist assistant students to sit for their licensing examination up to 90 days prior to graduation provided they verify their educational status with the Board. I believe this is a commonsense change and I would appreciate your support. |
