Subject: 250th Anniversary Resolution for the Borough of Myerstown
In the near future I will be introducing a resolution commemorating the founding of the Borough of Myerstown 250 years ago.

Originally called Tulpehocken Town, its roadways were laid out in 1768 by Isaac Meier on farmland north of his home. Meier was mortally wounded by a gunshot through a tavern window in 1770, after which the local citizenry began referring to the area as Meier-Town and later Myerstown.

Today’s Main Avenue in Myerstown follows an original Native American path which was later developed into the Berks and Dauphin Turnpike, which was completed in 1817 as a 53 mile toll road between Harrisburg and Reading. The borough was also home to a portion of the Union Canal, and was formally incorporated on February 5th 1912.

Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of Myerstown, Lebanon County.
