Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 16, 2018 01:00 PM
From: Representative Brad Roae
To: All House members
Subject: Reducing the Size of the PA Gaming Control Board

In the near future, I will introduce legislation to reduce the number of board members on the Gaming Control Board from 7 to 5.

Pennsylvania has about 700 different boards and commissions and only 12 of them pay their commissioners and board members an annual salary.

The PA Turnpike pays each of its 5 commissioners $26,000 per year. The PA Liquor Control Board pays each of its 3 board members $76,000 per year. The PA Gaming Control Board pays each of its 7 board members $145,000 per year.

As we consider reducing the size of the House, privatizing the monopoly state owned liquor stores and GO TIME cost savings initiatives by Governor Wolf, we can add this as an idea to save money rather than raise fees and raise taxes.

The effective date will occur when the 3-year terms end for the two PA Gaming Control Board appointments that were made by Governor Wolf in August 2017 and November 2017.

I would greatly appreciate your support of this legislation. Please contact my office if you have any questions. Thank you for your consideration.
