| I believe that every responsible person will agree with the following statement: all children have the right to being raised in a safe and secure environment that prepares them for a future of opportunity and promise. Tragically, child abuse and neglect threaten the lives and health of thousands of our Commonwealth’s children who are subjected to verbal, sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, exploitation, and neglect. In order to prevent the maltreatment of our youngest population, it is vital for communities to create partnerships among families and organizations that provide supportive resources and reinforce protective measures. Every year, across the nation, the month of April is dedicated to building those partnerships by raising awareness of the pervasiveness of child abuse and to promoting the safety and well-being of all children. I encourage you to join me in renewing Pennsylvania’s commitment to preventing child abuse by sponsoring my resolution to designate the month of April 2018 as “Child Abuse Prevention Month” in Pennsylvania.
