Subject: | Modernization of the Landlord and Tenant Act |
The Landlord Tenant Act has not been rewritten since 1951. Therefore, we should adopt a version of the Revised Uniform Residential Landlord Tenant Act to modernize Pennsylvania's outdated Act. This model legislation is an excellent replacement because it updates our law and seeks to provide an equitable balance for all parties involved. With better landlord and tenant relationships, our communities become stronger and better places to live and work. As you may know, the Revised Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act was drafted by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) over the course of three years. A team of lawyers, judges, legislators, legislative staff, and law professors from across the country drafted the model act with extensive input from national and regional stakeholders. We feel this act is an exceptional model on which to build a better Landlord and Tenant Act. This modernization could help thousands of working families and landlords across Pennsylvania. Thank you in advance for your consideration and we hope you join us in co-sponsoring this bill. |
