Subject: | Improving Coordination of Workforce Development Programs under the Workforce Development Board |
As part of the continuing effort to make the government more efficient and effective, I am writing to ask you to join me as a co-sponsor of legislation to improve and empower the state’s Workforce Development Board (WDB). Federal and state law charge the WDB with serving as the state’s coordinator of workforce development programs, a task that is complicated by the Commonwealth’s fragmented approach to workforce development. In conjunction with the effort to consolidate workforce development programs under the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), this legislation would shift the WDB from the Department of Labor and Industry to DCED, where it can more effectively implement its mission. The improved coordination among workforce development programs as part of this overall effort will result in improved services for job seekers and prospective employers, while providing better value for the taxpayers who fund these programs. Please consider joining me as a co-sponsor of this important legislation. |
