|Subject:||Applauding York County for Their Effort to Provide Vietnam Veterans A Welcome Home Celebration|
|Last Year President Trump signed Senate Bill 305, sponsored by Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania which designated March 29 as a day of recognition for the veterans of the Vietnam War. Senate Bill 305 was the passion and the dream of Sgt. Harold Redding a resident of York County who served his country in Vietnam.
Unlike the many veterans who came before them and those that followed them, Vietnam Veterans were treated with disdain upon their return. The poor treatment of those who served our country during Vietnam is well documented as veterans were harassed, spit on and at times even physically attacked. This treatment is not only shameful, but is a lasting mark of disgrace on our nation’s history.
In order to right this historical wrong, I am proud of my home county of York who is working to give these soldiers the welcome home they deserved. I plan to introduce a resolution to applaud York County for their effort to provide the Vietnam Veterans in York County their long-awaited welcome home celebration.
Please join me in recognizing this effort being made to welcome home Vietnam Veterans and affirm our commitment as a legislative body in honoring their service to our country.
