Subject: | Co-Sponosr Memo for Tax Credits for Volunteer First Responders |
In the very near future, I plan on introducing legislation establishing a Volunteer First Responder Education Tax Credit Program to assist Pennsylvania’s active volunteer first responders with access to a higher education. If enacted, this legislation will provide a scholarship of up to $5,000 per active volunteer first responder to attend a Pennsylvania institution of higher learning. As we know, recruitment and retention of volunteer first responders in our community is very vital and currently is suffering from the ability to recruit and maintain volunteers. At one time the Commonwealth had over 350,000 volunteer first responders, and currently there are only 49,000. We all depend on these hard working and dedicated volunteer first responders on a daily basis to protect our citizens . Please consider sponsoring this important piece of legislation to assist our volunteer first responders. |
