|Subject:||Army SPC Christine L. Mayes Memorial Bridge|
|My legislation will designate a portion of State Route 1041 running both directions over the Mahoning Creek, in Grant and Canoe Township, in Indiana County, as the Army SPC Christine L. Mayes Memorial Bridge.
Army SPC Christine L. Mayes lived in Rochester Mills and attended Marion Center High School. Upon graduation she enlisted in the US Army and served a three-year tour of active duty, where she was assigned to the 586th Maintenance Company in Germany for 2 ½ years.
After her release of active duty she enlisted in the US Army Reserves and was assigned to the 14th Quartermaster Detachment in Greensburg, PA. Her unit was deployed to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia to aid in the combat of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
On February 25, 2991, only three days before the end of the Persian Gulf War, Army SPC Christine L. Mayes was killed in action during a scud missile attack. The attack took the lives of 28 soldiers and wounded 99 more.
SPC Mayes was awarded the Purple Heart, the Liberation of Kuwait Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal and multiple Military Merits.
Please join with me in honoring and remembering our hometown hero, Army SPC Christine L. Mayes by naming this bridge in her honor, so that her sacrifice and service will never be forgotten.
