MEMORANDUM

Subject: Resolution Recognizing October 2017 as Energy Awareness Month in Pennsylvania

I will soon be introducing a Resolution recognizing October 2017 as Energy Awareness Month in Pennsylvania.

October has been recognized as Energy Awareness Month across the United States since 1991, when it was first declared by President George Bush. Energy Awareness Month is a nationwide effort to highlight how essential energy conservation is to protecting the environment while also growing our economy.
Pennsylvania ranks 3rd in the nation for total energy production as of 2015. In addition, we are the 2nd largest natural gas producer in the United States, the 3rd largest coal producing state, and 2nd in electricity generation from nuclear power. Pennsylvania is also one of the largest solar employers in the nation with 527 solar businesses, employing 3,061.

With the advancements in technology and science, the United States and Pennsylvania have made great strides in developing energy efficient products. Pennsylvanians make informed purchases and decisions when it comes to purchasing energy efficient products and make conscious decisions to preserve our natural resources.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this Resolution to bring awareness to all individuals residing in the Commonwealth. Pennsylvanians can benefit from energy efficient measures, renewables, and other green initiatives.
