Subject: | Returning Charter School Money to Public Schools |
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that would amend the Public School Code, halting payments from a public school district to a charter school for students who leave the charter school to re-enroll in public schools. Additionally, this legislation would refund the final monthly payment to the public school on a pro rata basis. While facing the difficult financial decisions looming in this Commonwealth, we should ensure that every dollar possible is being provided to our public schools in order to provide the constitutionally mandated thorough and efficient education. It is simply not fair to students, teachers or taxpayers that payments continue to flow to a charter school even after a student transfers back to a public school. By making sure these dollars follow students back to the public school system, we are better able to fund our public schools fairly. Please join in me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
