Subject:	Neglect of a Care-Dependent Person

In the near future, I am planning to introduce legislation amending Title l8 (Crimes Code) Section 2713 regarding neglect of a care-dependent person. This bill will expand the offense to include neglect that results in death. In 2010, a 20-year-old highly autistic man who attended and resided at a school in my district was left in a hot van for several hours after a school trip, and it resulted in his passing. I was contacted by the ADA who prosecuted this case regarding a gap in the existing statute that does not allow for increased grading where death results. Expanding the statue to include conduct resulting in death makes it cover all possible outcomes and helps protects our most vulnerable citizens. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation.
