Subject: Construction Worker and Driver Safety Pilot Program for Active Work Zones
 

In the near future, I will introduce legislation to create a pilot program to provide additional safety protections for Pennsylvania construction workers operating in active work zones.

This legislation will establish a pilot program regulated by PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Specifically, the program authorizes the use of automated speed enforcement systems in designated work areas. Use of the automated devices will be limited to active travel lanes adjacent to the portion of an active work zone where construction, maintenance or utility workers are located.
