Subject: | Resolution: Violent Crime Survivors’ Assistance and Grief Support Day |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution designating April 27, 2017, as “Violent Crime Survivors’ Assistance and Grief Support Day” in Pennsylvania. More than 40,000 violent crimes were committed in Pennsylvania in 2015 with more than half committed in the five-county Southeastern region. I know from my experiences in Delaware County that all crimes leave behind a trail of survivors. In 2015 alone, Delaware County saw 2,228 violent crimes which included 36 murders. Survivors of these terrible crimes need and deserve compassionate support services to help them cope and recover. My resolution honors those who provide counseling, substance abuse treatment, mental health services, advocacy and other supports to survivors. In addition, my resolution encourages local governments to provide resources that will build links between the community, law enforcement and support services. Please join me in recognizing the bravery of crime survivors and the dedication of those providing vital help to them in Pennsylvania. |
