MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 12, 2017 11:08 AM
From: Representative Anthony M. DeLuca
To: All House members
Subject: Prohibiting Cell Phone Use While Driving

In the near future I will be introducing a bill amending Title 75 by adding talking on a cell phone while driving as a primary offense. Too often we see people on the highway unable to drive safely because they are distracted by their hand held device.

My bill is appropriate at this time because April is Distracted Driving Month. Furthermore, it is estimated that an individual who is distracted is 3 times more likely to be in an accident than a driver who is paying attention. If an individual is found to be guilty of the above offense, a $50 fine may be levied against them.

This is a common sense bill and has been taken up by other states. I respectfully ask for your support of this bill.

Introduced as HB1461
