MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 3, 2017 09:25 AM
From: Representative Judy Ward
To: All House members
Subject: Purple Heart/Combat Wounded Veteran License Plates

In the near future, I will introduce legislation which will amend Title 75 § 1346 to allow motorcycles to display a Purple Heart/Combat Wounded Veteran registration plate, if the owner is a recipient of the military decoration. Currently, this plate is only available for passenger cars or trucks.

The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after April 5, 1917, has been wounded or killed.

A constituent of mine who was wounded in action in Vietnam in 1967 asked that I introduce this legislation so he may display the plate on his motorcycle “while he is still young enough to ride.”

It is with great honor and respect that I offer this piece of legislation to recognize the service and sacrifice of our nation's bravest. This will allow our combat wounded veterans the opportunity to display this plate on their motorcycle the same way they display this plate with pride on their other vehicles.

Thank you for your consideration and support of this piece of legislation.

Introduced as HB1294
