Subject: | Environmental Permitting Reform Act |
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation establishing the Environmental Permitting Reform Act. This legislation aims to address delays encountered when applying for permits from the Department of Environmental Protection. Currently, the DEP is not statutorily required to issue most permits within a specified time frame. This has caused great uncertainty with additional ramifications – contractual issues, further delays, and inability to estimate time frames for project planning purposes. The Environmental Permitting Reform Act would address these issues by requiring the DEP to issue permits within a specified time frame. Permits that are not issued within the specified time frame will be transferred to a permit program. This program will be administered by third-party licensed professionals. The Act would also require DEP to submit a report on the permits and permit program. Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
