Subject: | Real ID Resolution |
On January 24, 2017, 116 members of the House joined together to ask President Trump to assist us in resolving constitutional and cost issues associated with the REAL ID Act, by directing his administration to reexamine the application of its burdensome provisions and encouraging the United States Congress to make changes to the law. The concerns we raised in that letter remain. The Act imposes an unfunded mandate upon the people of Pennsylvania and it is an unconstitutional intrusion into state authority over driver licensing. As a follow-up to this important communication, I plan to introduce a resolution respectfully asking the President to consider and act upon the concerns we raised in this letter. The resolution will also urge the United States Congress to consider legislation that will provide the states with relief from the unfunded mandates associated with REAL ID and individual citizens with relief from potential financial and privacy concerns associated with this law. Please consider confirming your commitment to this course of action by cosponsoring the resolution. If you have any questions please contact Gina Deppen at gdeppen@pahousegop.com or 717-783-1707. |
