|Subject:||Office for People with Disabilities Act (Former House Bill 1183)|
|In the near future, I plan to reintroduce House Bill 1183 of the 2015-16 Legislative Session which would create the Office for People with Disabilities Act.
As you know, Governor Rendell created the Governor’s Cabinet and Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities through Executive Order 2006-09. The passage of my legislation would establish the cabinet and advisory committee within state statute thereby ensuring the permanent operation of both entities in the Commonwealth.
Additionally, this proposal would form the Office for People with Disabilities within the Office of the Governor. The office would be charged with various duties including, but not limited to, working to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services to people with disabilities as well as advancing nondiscriminatory employment practices for people with disabilities.
Please join me in supporting the ongoing work of the cabinet and advisory committee as well as the establishment of this office under the governor to make certain that our state government remains responsive to people with disabilities. Your consideration is appreciated.
