MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 13, 2017 11:46 AM
From: Representative Carol Hill-Evans
To: All House members
Subject: Designating October 2017 as “American Pharmacists and Pharmacy Month”

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating the month of October 2017 as
“American Pharmacists and Pharmacy Month” in Pennsylvania.

The development of modern medicine has greatly impacted and improved the quality of life for millions of Americans, but these drugs may also cause harm if not taken properly. Pharmacists are medication experts who know their patients and are aware of their medical history, which can help avoid possible harmful drug interactions and allergic reactions to certain medications.

Pharmacy has continued to expand its role within the delivery of health care and is practiced in multiple settings, such as community pharmacies, hospitals, long term care facilities, mail service, and managed care. Our great Commonwealth has 22,606 licensed pharmacists, who are an integral part of a patient’s health plan and are instrumental in helping educate the public on medications and helping stop prescription drug abuse.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to celebrate our pharmacists and their contributions to health care in Pennsylvania and across the nation.
