Subject: Distracted Driving (Prior HB 714)
 
I am planning to reintroduce legislation regarding distracted drivers.

A wide variety of behaviors such as electronic devices, grooming devices, food and drink, printed material, can affect drivers and create dangerous situations. This legislation will create an additional summary offense of distracted driving if a driver is also found to be driving carelessly. The fine for distracted driving will be $50.

This bill also establishes the Driver Distraction Awareness Fund. All fines will be deposited into that fund, and it shall be used solely for the fund’s educational program.
