Subject: | Transgender Student Rights |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to amend the Public School Code to eliminate gender-based restrictions and prerequisites for transgender students. This bill is based off of California's “Success for All Students Act”, which clarifies that students may live as their true gender identity, regardless of the gender listed on student records. Under this legislation, students would be able to follow the dress code, use facilities such as locker rooms and restrooms, and participate in athletic programs based on a students' self-attested gender. This bill would not allow for harassment in gender segregated spaces, nor would it require the dismantling of such spaces. This bill is to allow all students who identify with a certain gender to use that gender's spaces. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation. |
