Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 17, 2017 04:44 PM
From: Representative Ed Gainey
To: All House members
Subject: Patient Comfort & Palliative Care (re-introduction of former HB 630 2015-16 session)

For the upcoming session of 2017-18, I intend to re-introduce legislation that creates the Patient Comfort Act, which establishes a Patient's Bill of Rights for Palliative Care and Pain Management, including the right for terminally ill patients to be informed by a physician of all available options related to terminal care. The bill would also require the Department of Health to establish a Palliative Care and Pain Management Task Force -- whose purpose would be to help patients gain access for services and propose solutions for addressing gaps in services.

A copy of the legislation is attached for your review and consideration.
