Subject: | Tourism Tax Credit (Prior HB 204) |
I am planning to reintroduce legislation establishing a $15 million tax credit to fund the marketing and promotion of Pennsylvania’s second largest industry, tourism. For more than five decades, state government has worked in partnership with local communities and the tourism industry to market Pennsylvania’s many tourist attractions to out-of-state visitors. It’s been a great success. Tourism has a $39 billion annual economic impact, supporting over 450,000 jobs and generating $4 billion in state and local taxes. However, state support for tourism has dropped by 90% over the past several years. This has severely diminished our efforts to reach out to potential visitors. A tax credit could provide the funds needed and also generate a productive working partnership with private industry and local visitors bureaus. Previous Cosponsors: BOBACK, D.
