Subject: | Political Do-Not-Call List |
During this time of year, Pennsylvanians are experiencing an onslaught of political “robo-calls.” These calls are disruptive and invade the privacy of our homes. There is no shortage of political advertising and communication during this election season. Pennsylvanians understand that, as a condition of watching commercial TV or accessing streaming videos, they may be exposed to political advertising. However, when our constituents are enjoying a few precious hours in their homes with family or friends, they should not be exposed to unwanted political phone calls. That is why I have chosen to introduce legislation to establish a separate do-not-call list for political robo-calls. This list would be maintained separately from any other do-not-call list. Under the proposal, a process would be established to allow a residential or wireless telephone subscriber to place his or her phone number on the do-not-call list for automatic political calls. Because this is a timely issue, I am planning to introduce the bill this session and reintroduce it in the upcoming session. Please consider cosponsoring this important legislation. |
