Subject: Tom Daley Law – Suspension of License for failing to notify the police department of an accident

In the near future, I will introduce legislation that results in a 6 month suspension of a license if the driver of a vehicle fails to notify the police department of an accident.

On a late night in December 2014 Tom Daley was struck by an SUV. After the SUV fled the scene of the accident Tom lay dying in the street. He was then struck by a second vehicle who also left the scene of the accident. The first driver was sentenced to jail time however, the second driver was able to leave court that day, get into his car, and drive off.

No matter the motivation, it does not mitigate the responsibility for the driver of a vehicle to notify the police department of an accident. My Bill would temporarily remove drivers like those involved in Tom Daley’s death from operating a vehicle in the Commonwealth.

Please join me in sponsoring this important piece of legislation.

Thank you for your consideration.
