MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 24, 2015 03:36 PM
From: Representative Jim Marshall
To: All House members
Subject: Optometrists included in the list of medical providers

In the near future I plan to introduce legislation that would include optometrists in the list of medical providers who may certify to a disability for the purpose of issuing a handicapped plate or placard for a person with a disability.

In order to obtain a license plate or placard for a person with a disability, an individual must submit an application to the Department of Transportation. This application must be accompanied by a statement, certified by a physician, podiatrist, chiropractor, physician assistant or certified registered nurse practitioner licensed or certified to practice in this Commonwealth or in a contiguous state, that the person is disabled as provided under statute. Blindness is included in the list of disabilities which makes and individual eligible for a plate or placard; therefore, it is appropriate to include optometrists in the list of medical providers who may certify to a disability.

Please consider joining me in sponsoring this important legislation.
