Subject: | EZ-ID License Plates - The redesign of the registration plate system in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation which provides for the redesign of the registration plate system in Pennsylvania. Currently, license plates can contain a combination of up to seven letters and/or numbers. EZ-ID legislation seeks to provide a simpler alternative by using commonly recognizable symbols instead. Every 40 seconds in the USA, a child is reported missing or abducted and 70% of all crimes committed involve the use of a private motor vehicle. Random numbers and letters on license plates are too difficult to remember in a time of crisis. By making all general issue license plates easier to identify, even by young children, we raise the risk level for perpetrators and can help prevent many of these abductions from occurring. PennDOT would approve a design and establish protocols to implement a redesigned registration plate system for motor vehicles. The system would use commonly recognizable symbols and will have a corresponding, three-character alphanumeric reference. Personal and organization license plates will not be changed. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you for your consideration. |
