Subject: | Cosponsor - Parent Opt-Out for Keystone Exams |
Dear Colleagues – In the near future, I will introduce legislation giving parents/guardians the ability to opt-out of the Keystone Exams for their school-aged children. Currently, parents may opt their children out of taking the Keystone Exams only for religious reasons. My proposal would give parents the ability to opt their children out of taking the Keystone Exams for any reason. Students in such a situation would not be penalized for failing to sit for the Keystone Exams, and no student would be compelled to take the Keystone Exams as a graduation requirement. As you are likely aware, the Keystone Exams are a series of state mandated standardized tests administered to high school students that have generated significant conversation in recent days. I would appreciate your support of this proposal. |
